2010 Favorite Beauty Low + High End Products

Happy New Year Eves!

I have not done these monthly favorite beauty products because it rarely differs. I'm those that stick to what works... and plus I was so broke this year I didn't buy many makeup to brag about ha. But funnily enough, majority of the products used were mainly bought this year. Hmm, Celly. Haha. I separated it into two categories: High End & Low End Makeup. And basically these are items used very often/daily and several Holy Grail items I've always relied on.

HIGH END ITEMS
  • Urban Decay Naked Palette: Beauty Bloggers all raved about this product and it is well deserved, although a bit over-hyped but I am often using it in every one of my looks some way, some how.
  • Urban Decay Eden Primer Potion: UDPP is holy grail of primers but Eden is best because I love the matte look it achieves and dubs as a good base and highlight shade.
  • NARS Sheer Matte Foundation: I've used this since it first came out and I am hooked. I get everyone converted to NARS. My special occasion foundation doesn't break me out and gives great coverage.
  • MAC Blush in Sunbasque & Cantaloupe (PRO): Sunbasque gives such nice color to my skin love the orange and Cantaloupe has been my every day blush - I've had it for years, love!
  • MAC Eyeshadows in Tete-A-Tint, Coppering, Dazzlelight: Dazzlelight I've had for years but only this year have I grown to love it - underrated shade.
  • MAC Glitter Transparent Teal: ORGASMIC!
  • MAC English Accent Lipgloss: I wish this wasn't limited edition, HQ gloss thus far.
  • MAC Warm Soul Mineralize Blush
LOW END ITEMS

  • Covergirl LashBlast Length Mascara: I used this solely on my lower lashes or for very natural lashes.
  • L'Oreal Telescopic Mascara Original: HG mascara for years - have not found anything better and when used correctly, forget about false lashes!
  • L'Oreal True Match Foundation: Doesn't break me out and offers the best shade. I used this more often than any higher end products for daily use.
  • Wet N' Wild Icon Palettes: I've gotten friends hooked on this too. I love them all - MAC dupes and way better than NYX (in terms of drugstore brands).
  • Wet N' Wild Eyebrow Pencil: I get many compliments on my brows and this pencil has the best waxy consistency that glides well... and it's only a buck.
  • NYX Glosses in Natural & Real Nude
  • Burts Bees Lip Balm
  • Real Colors Waterproof Liner in Petal to the Metal
  • Prestige Liquid Liner: I used this more than fluidline, have for years. HG liquid Liner.
  • L'Oreal Age Defying Concealer
  • Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Lilac Pastel & Peach Petal: Such gorgeous shades!
  • Ardell Lashes in 120 Demi
  • ELF Eyebrow Kit
That seems to be the whole caboodle of things...
See all you ladies in 2011!

FOTD: Monochromatic Contest Entry

Hi!

Today I have a fun FOTD for a contest held by insanely gorgeous Rubey who I wish owned her closet and thick ass hair. (Go back on FB haha). She's holding a contest inspired by Monochromatic, meaning using one color for your entire look. I choose to use all variations of pink! It reminds me of Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga type of kookiness.

Katy Perry - Fireworks

And may I add - I miss doing contests. The makeup blog community use to do them so often, now it's nothing but giveaways - which is fine, but I like a good competition and doing something creative involving what we love! Plus, you all know most of your followers just follow for giveaways and never come back again...'til a next giveaway haha. So I enjoy seeing the actual involvement - I dunno if I'm alone in thinking this? Enough rambling...

FACE - NARS Cadiz Matte Foundation, MAC Dollymix Blush
EYES - MAC Perky p/p, Coastal Scents Colleen's Dream p/m (lid), MAC Yogurt (lower lashline/inner eye corner), Sushi Flower (the lined crease/lower lash), Girlie (highlight) NYX Pink l/l (eyebrows), Ardell Lashes, L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara, Prestige Liquid Liner, Benefit High Brow (waterline)

REVIEW: Walmart Ultimate Face Set Brushes

I bought these brushes this past weekend after lemming for them for awhile now.
They had several sets with longer handles, one being this face set and another for eyes. Majority of the brand had travel size items which weren't appealing to me and single brushes. I'm going back to get the stippling brush for travel.

WHAT: Ultimate Face Set w/ Travel Case
WHERE: Walmart (bought in), Walgreens (Personally seen them there), Ulta, Riteaid.
HOW MUCH: $12

The brand is all less then $20 - most products ranging in $3-5 for individual brushes.
At Walmart they had Tester stands so you can feel the brushes.

Left/Right: Contoured Cheek Brush, Foundation Brush, Mini Powder Brush, Deluxe Concealer Brush
Above is a comparison between my (very dirty) MAC #187 brush, Cheek brush and ELF Brush to show the length of the handle.

Foundation Brush
The foundation brush is too small for me personally, but it's good for blending out smaller areas around my face and contouring with cream products.
Concealer Brush
I've been needing one and this is awesome. Does the job and blends out nicely.
Cheek Brush
This doesn't pick up much product but that's completely fine with me because I always try to get as little blush color and then layer more if needed. Heavy hands need not worry. It's so soft, ahh - I love soft brushes against my face.
Powder Brush
I'll have to test this one out... good size for putting translucent powder to selective areas.

Overall - I'm LOVING these. They're so soft, work well and most importantly really affordable. When it comes to any form of face brushes - the softer - the better to me. Density is good too for product blending. No weird smell upon opening them but I did wash them because I could tell they were tampered with (and I touch them as well, can only imagine others do too). It does not say what material the bristles are made of in the bag. But their sister brand is EcoTools.

Have you tried these brushes yourself - thoughts, opinions?

SWATCH: Real Colors - Hydra Lips Gel Lip Liner

Herro.
This past weekend I accompanied my friend to Sally Beauty Supply Store.
While she was shopping I was browsing their lip products. I've been in search for a deep berry shade when I came across this lip liner by Real Colors in PETAL TO THE METAL. Love!
In person the shade is actually more deeper but still has that bright fuchsia look. So I'm thinking of pairing it with a black gloss of some sort?
What: Real Colors Hydra Lips Gel Lip Liner in Petal to the Metal
Where: Sally Beauty and Sally Stores
How Much: $6 (non-discount/ without Sally Card)

From the image above you can see my chapped lips - it gets like that with drying formulas. Alone, the pencil is matte but glides on fairly well. It did last a good amount of time because it wasn't creamy. Good for being a base to lipsticks or glosses as it won't budge. It was hard to remove with just water so that's a plus since it lives up to its name.
This somewhat reminds me of MAC's Hollywood Nights which is limited edition but not as bright.

FACE - L'Oreal Foundation, MAC Blush in Margin
EYES - Prestige Liquid Liner, L'Oreal Telescopic Mascara, Benefit High Brow (waterline), Wet N' Wild Brow Pencil

And here are a few Sally Coupons and Promos:
20% off online orders over $25. Use Promo Code 555938
Extended CyberMonday Sale! Free Shipping on ANY Online Order through 12/4! No code required!

Anyone else tried this brand or lip liner?

NOTD: Barry M + Sephora Nail Polish Removal Review

Hola.
Everyone had fun cyber shopping?
I totally zoned out and forgot about it - boo!
It didn't dawn on me until 11pm and I was no where near a computer. Haha.

Anywho - I bring today a review of my newly beloved Nail Polish removal by Sephora. I give myself a weekly manicure and pedicure so a good removal is a must for me.
Who - NAILS Dissolvant Nail Polish Removal
Where - Sephora.comor local  Sephora stores.
How Much - $6-9 (depending on bottle size)

I went to a friend while trying this out at Sephora, "OH MY EFFIN GOD - THIS REMOVED IT HELLA FAST IN ONE SWIPE!" all in my Oprah voice and head shakes in amazement. She gave a quick look at the price and said, "...I mean, for $9 I wouldn't get it. That's too much for just nail removal. It's not makeup or anything worth spending $9 for..." (insert glare from me). She obviously didn't share the same enthusiasm for discovering a miracle in a bottle. In saying so, yes it's pricey but you need minimal product to get quick results.

What's best is that with one pad all 10 fingers are clean with no yellowing left behind from some pigmentation and it left my fingers/toes soft and slightly moist. I hate the dry feeling Polish Removals give. If anyone knows of a dupe of this, please share. Otherwise - highly recommend!

And here now onto my Barry M NOTD (or past 2 weeks)in Navy.

2 Coats
Seche Vite Topcoat
I love Barry M Lacquers but unfortunately it's not readily available in the States. I won this in a makeup contest and I want more. A true Deep Navy shade that looks great during the Holiday season.

This is a Thanksgiving inspired look but didn't wear that actual day.
I wore MAC Bronze shadow and liner... simple look on Thanksgiving.

Tutorial: Eyebrow + Wet N' Wild Sugar Plum Palette

Here goes my first tutorial on the Wet N' Wild Palette - it is limited edition, honestly it's nothing spectacular so you aren't missing much from it. I bought it because it was on sale for $2 last month.

Here is the look we are achieving today - a really quick and simple purple look:

Products used: WNW Palette, Urban Decay Matte Primer Potion, WNW Eyebrow Pencil, ELF Eyebrow Kit, L'Oreal Telescopic, Prestige Liquid Liner

1. Tweeze your brows to shape. I always pluck around my brows and only ones growing out, I don't reshape my brows anymore.

2. With a spoolie brush, sweep hair up and trim your brows. I do this about once a week.

3. I then fill and shape my brows with a eyebrow pencil. I prefer Wet N' Wild's in Dark Brown. It's a shade lighter then my natural hair colors but it doesn't look harsh on me. The wax in the pencil helps keep the hairs in place too. I just gently stroke color to the outer portion of my brows.

4. With my ELF kit I fill in the inner part of brows by stroking upwards.

5. (optional) With concealer, outline your brows. This will help define and give a clean appearance to your brows.

6. Blend it out and you're set!

1. Set your primer on your lid. I used Urban Decay Matte Potion Primer.

2. Blend it out! This is a great primer, it also acts as a good base and natural highlight color.

3. Choose the lightest shade and place is on your 2/3 lid and towards the crease.

4. Next, grab the peach shade and apply on the crease as a transition blend to the brow bone.

5. After, get the light violet shade and place on the outer lid blending inward.

*Not shown - grab the purple and blend into the crease.

6. With a blending brush place the deepest shade into the outer crease and blend inward.

7. Grab the same shade and place it on our lower lashes.

8.Get your eyeliner of choice. I prefer Prestige Liquid Liner for a quick application.

9. Wing it out.

10. Mascara top and bottom lashes and wah lah - DONE!

Hope this was helpful to someone.
